Good oral health is fundamental to overall health and wellbeing.
Without it, a person’s general quality of life and the ability to eat, speak and socialise is compromised, resulting in pain, discomfort and embarrassment.
Oral health refers to the condition of a person’s teeth and gums, as well as the health of the muscles and bones in their mouth.
Poor oral health, affects many Australian children and adults, mainly tooth decay, gum disease and tooth loss.
Oral health generally deteriorates over a person’s lifetime.
Many factors contribute to poor oral health, including:
The most common oral diseases affect the teeth (tooth decay, called ‘caries’) and gums (periodontal disease). Oral disease can destroy the tissues in the mouth, leading to lasting physical and psychological disability.
Tooth loss can reduce the functionality of the mouth, making chewing and swallowing more challenging, which in turn can compromise nutrition.
Poor nutrition can impair general health and exacerbate existing health conditions.
Poor oral health is also associated with a number of chronic diseases, including stroke and cardiovascular disease.
oor oral health can also affect a person’s wellbeing. Dental disease can impair a person’s appearance and speech, eroding their self-esteem, which in turn can lead to restricted participation at school, the workplace, home and other social settings.
At Beerwah Dental our Hygienists clean and polish all teeth and also provide you with individually tailored instructions and tools to perform optimal oral hygiene procedures at home, and information on your diet and health conditions relating to your oral health.
Our oral hygiene program, including assessment of your gums health, evaluation of radiographs and a review of your medical history.
Removal of *plaque and **calculus deposits (tartar) and stains from your teeth.
*Plaque is sticky, soft and usually an off-white colour. With the correct brushing and flossing plaque can be removed. However, if you don’t clean the plaque off, the bacteria release toxins that will irritate your gums—this bacteria produces the acid which causes tooth decay. With a scale and clean from one of our Dental Hygienists, we can get rid of the plaque from those places that is difficult to get to with a toothbrush and floss.
**Calculus (more commonly referred to as tartar) is different to plaque in that it is a hard, calcified build-up. And it can’t be removed with brushing and flossing. If plaque is not cleaned off your teeth the minerals in your saliva will deposit in the plaque making it calcified. Calculus can only be removed by a dentist or dental hygienist—this is the scaling part of a scale and clean.

The CDBS is a good incentive and support for parents seeking the best care of their children’s oral health.
There are some restrictions on the CDBS such as orthodontic, cosmetic dental work and dental services provided in hospital, we can assess your children’s dentistry needs and help you determine eligibility, so that you can set your child on the way to sound oral health care patterns.
Generally speaking children should see a dentist by the time they’re one year old or when their first tooth comes through, whichever happens first. After that, we will let you know how often to bring your child for a check-up which is usually every 6-12 months.
Bacteria in the mouth feed on sugars from both food and drinks. These bacteria produce acid, which damages the outer surface of the tooth. Saliva helps to repair this damage, but if there is more damage than repair, it leaves a cavity or in the tooth which we then need to fix.
TESTIMONIALS
Regan and his team have really set the bench mark in dentistry. They are very friendly and make your visit on the day as comfortable as possible. From your choice of music , too blankets if you get cold. Even a hot towel at the end of session. Regan explained every little detail and what measures needed to be carried out . He even gave me 3 paths to choose for my dental work and what sort of time frame the work would last . I would recommend Beerwah Dental hands down , if your looking for a new dental experience , knowing your teeth are in good hands. Go and see Regan and his team.
