Dental crowns at Queenslands Beerwah Dental are a long-lasting solution for a tooth with extensive decay that can’t be fixed with a filling.
A crown – a dental cap that covers the entire tooth – can also be used if a tooth has suffered significant damage, is discoloured, is badly worn-down, or to add strength to a tooth with a large filling.
Dental crown treatment at Beerwah Dental enhances smiles by restoring shape, size and colour to damaged teeth, while providing protection against further damage.
Problems dental crowns can fix
As we go through the course of time teeth often need fillings placed due to dental decay occurring. When these fillings need replacing due to decay recurring, or fillings leaking – teeth become weakened and more brittle and often begin to break apart.
As this happens the teeth become harder and harder to maintain in one piece, without the teeth dying, or splitting, needing root canals or eventually being lost.
With each tooth that is lost this places more and more demand on the teeth that remain and the back teeth – which are the most important in terms of the bite bear most of the brunt of this. This causes them to break and be lost also – until the snowball effect picks up and cannot be stopped without tooth strengthening or replacement.
Teeth can be replaced if this happens although this can either be more expensive or much more uncomfortable.
Options include: Dental Implants, Partial or Full Dentures or Bridges.
Dental Bridges address these two problems listed above in that they.
Crowns now days are very strong and we are not very concerned that they will break. The success of a crowned tooth mainly depends however on how bad the tooth has gotten before we crown it.
If the decay or filling is very deep and close to the nerve of a tooth then there are more chances in time that the tooth may also require a root canal to take the nerve out.
Additionally if there is a crack in a tooth – then there is still some chance – depending on the size of the crack that it may still spread and the tooth underneath split.
For all of these reasons, if a tooth is starting to become brittle, is breaking or beginning to crack, even if it has no pain, then it should ideally have the protection of a crown early on. If it is attempted as the ‘last ditch option’ then the chances of long term success are not as high.
A crown is as strong as a tooth, provides important dental protection, and strengthens remaining healthy tooth structure.
Other benefits of crowns include:
The dental crown process

Most crowns will last for a good fifteen years without a problem. But with the right care, they can last far longer than that. If you stay on top of your dental hygiene they can actually last a lifetime. Modern crown materials are designed to strike a balance between durability and appearance.
As we’ll discuss in our initial consultation to ensure that you are qualified, but most patients for all ages are. Generally, anyone who has good oral health and who is committed to maintaining their new smile can get dental crowns.
Dental crowns are better than tooth extractions since you still get to keep your natural teeth intact. Several dental conditions are associated with tooth loss. Thus, making tooth extractions the last option for most dental professionals.
Often if teeth that bite on each other or are next to each other – then they are best designed and worked on at the same time to get the best results. It is possible to repair a whole mouth in as little as two appointments.
TESTIMONIALS
Regan and his team have really set the bench mark in dentistry. They are very friendly and make your visit on the day as comfortable as possible. From your choice of music , too blankets if you get cold. Even a hot towel at the end of session. Regan explained every little detail and what measures needed to be carried out . He even gave me 3 paths to choose for my dental work and what sort of time frame the work would last . I would recommend Beerwah Dental hands down , if your looking for a new dental experience , knowing your teeth are in good hands. Go and see Regan and his team.
