What is sedation dentistry
IV (intravenous) sedation helps to relax patients during dental procedures. This overcomes the problem of dental anxiety, which can be a major obstacle to getting crucial oral health care.
IV sedation dentistry is a form of moderate, conscious sedation. This means you stay awake but feel drowsy. You’ll be less aware of the dental environment around you and what your dentist is doing, although you’re still able to interact with them.
Unlike inhalation sedation – nitrous oxide (happy gas) – and oral sedation – taking a pill ahead of treatment – IV sedation is administered through a vein (in the back of the hand or in your arm).
